MAC and Giambattista Valli: Limited Edition Niche

Mac Cosmetics has a bunch of geniuses in their marketing department. They found the niche of “Limited Edition” collaborations, and makeup enthusiasts have eaten it up! Whether they are featuring a line created by a celebrity or designer, these limited edition lines are becoming more and more challenging to get. The products are often new colors and finishes, and eye-catching packaging. Limited quantities add to the drama of getting your hands on the coveted color. Social media blows up before the release and collectors speculate if the hype is for real or a hoax. It can get insane! There was a lot of buzz around this collection, as the packaging matches the inside colors perfectly and people thought it was too good to be true (read: photoshopped).

Limited editions are so popular they sell out fast and can be difficult to snatch. I usually try to restrain myself when it comes to limited editions because I don’t want to love it and never be able to get it again. This summer, Mac released a collaboration with Giambattista Valli (check out his NYFW SS2016 show here). I instantly fell in love with the colors in this line. Each was unique, something I honestly didn’t have, and knew they would fit into every season. I’m also a sucker for matte finishes, so fly money fly, these had to be mine. Long story short…it was like a flashback to Black Friday (or Cyber Monday). The website crashed and they were gone within minutes.

For the next week they were sold out online. I came to terms with the fact these wouldn’t be mine.

Then a few months later, they launched in Seoul. I was surprised, shocked, and so excited. It was a small collection so I wasn’t expecting it in Asia. After a quick phone call and a telephone order, these babies were mine. I wasn’t expecting to keep all 5 of them, but my hubby graciously told me to keep them all and enjoy them. Happy Anniversary to me (one for each year we’ve been married)! I’ll take it and always think of him.
